The Colour of Loneliness

I saw crowds in the distance

Each group separate from the other

And I watched as they laughed and danced

Terrifyingly alone in the midst of a group.

Everywhere I looked, I could see a single colour,

Characterizing my everlasting loneliness.

It wasn’t as bold as black, nor bright enough

To cause you to squint and blink.

It was more like a shade of grey:

Colourless, yet comforting, and it

Smelled of old books, dusty yet nostalgic.
